Chillagoe. A Tiny Town With A BIG Backstory.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!

This tiny town delivers a lot of punch for it's size! Steeped in history stemming back millions of years, Chillagoe is largely renowned today for it's spectacular limestone cave system with jaw dropping stalactites and stalagmites in all shapes, sizes and colours that twinkle under torch light. It's hard to capture their beauty and impossible to describe the feeling, which for us was a cross between being in Jurassic Park & Game of Thrones!

Good to know.. yes, their is mobile coverage. There's also a general store, a terrific old pub, a hardware store, a gallery with cafe and a hotel/motel that dishes up tasty, affordable meals. We chose to camp at the EcoLodge - we highly recommend taking some industrial pegs and a jackhammer to get them in the ground! The weir provides an exceptional option for cooling down and the guided cave tours are well worth doing - perhaps over a couple of days rather than back to back. A cold ale does taste extra good afterwards!
